Round The World Trip Kicks Off on August the 12th
Greetings friends and fellow crunchers!
Well since you’re interested, we’re a couple. The male named Ken and the female named Ebru; the male an Austrian-South-African and the female a Turk, both of whom have lived in Britain for just past a decade, where they both met – and copulated[?!]
To come directly upon the crux of the matter, these two lucky beings will find themselves, by the twelfth of August 2011, a flight and a foot, possibly even a hoof, on an eastward journey around our great big globe, basking in the sights and the delights, the mysteries and the miracles Mother Nature pleases to set upon their path.
Given the fallibility of human memory (especially Ken’s) we thought it prudent to employ a reliable medium to record this adventure – a serious business you’ll agree – failing which, some precious memories could be sadly lost or misplaced, never for the finding.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Why this blog…
…aside from a personal memoir and updating our friends and family on our whereabouts?
We hope that readers will find in these pages information that will inspire them to travel these roads themselves, and useful information about the atmosphere and practicalities we gained about the places we visit.
I don’t know about you, but: when researching a place to visit, I find that the Internet search pages return a plethora of adverts from travel companies, informational pages from wikipedia or governmental tourism sites, but often what I am really looking for is some – preferably recent – reports of another traveller’s experience in that destination – what impressions did they get, what were the people like, the terrain, road, the costs, how did he/she get around and what tips can they offer, where did they get good information from?
If this is the kind of information you’re looking for we hope that our reports will be able to fill a gap in your questionnaire. Feel free to ask any questions or let us know if there’s any information you think we should be adding here.
What are we going to do?
Plant a tree each country we go
Have a BBQ possibly everywhere
Scuba Diving
Write stories & take photos
Drive a motorbike
Tango in Buenos-Aires
Trekking in Amazon
Visit the most amazing markets, yes shopping ladies….:)
…..many more, Ebru will figure out on the way, she can’t just do nothing!
Where are we going?
All over… India is our first stop then South East Asia, Australasia and South America. We will try to squeeze in 22 countries:)
How long are we going to be away?
We plan to complete our travel in 12 months but you never know what comes up while you are on the way.
UPDATE: Woops! It looks like August 12th, 2012 has come and gone. We’ve missed our flight and are currently still investigating South America on our trusty motorbike. New return date… watch this space…
Where have we been so far?
Asia: India, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam, Lao (Laos), Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia
Oceania: Australia, Vanuatu, Fiji, New Zealand
South America: Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay
Next destination: Africa
Why are we doing this?
As everyone says you only live once and make the most of it! We simply want to see the world, meet a lot of people and learn about other cultures before having real responsibilities like kids!
So how did it come to this?
You may say it has been a dream of ours for many years. Having been wed in 2010, and having endured a good healthy dose of the corporate punishment, we decided the time had come to cease procrastination! To drive the travel-engine into motion and to steer it on to a course away from routine, away from the familiar and unto the wild horizon of life lived on the bleeding cusp consciousness. QUALITY!
Thus maps were bought, routes were planned, belongings were sold, stored, donated, disposed of; tickets were booked, resignations were submitted, equipment was bought… all very exciting but rather an exhausting endeavour; though rather less so when you have as dogmatically efficient a wife as I do.
And at the time of this writing, the clock counts down 17 days, 17 hours and 30 minutes to departure. Marvellous! So we invite you to read these pages, view the photographs and comment as you will.
Acknowledgements…
But let us just spare another moment while we have your attention, to express our deepest gratitude to our lovely family and friends. We love you all and look forward to seeing you on the flip-side, with many new stories to tell. We will be missing you!
Furthermore, we are indebted to our dear friend Graeme from Caledonia for suggesting such an appropriate name for our website! Hope the writing’s going well my friend!

Whenever you are on dry land you will be on one of the seven continents. I’m sure that each one that you visit will have wonders for you to behold and adventures before not told. It is fine to be on continent but please always be careful with your spelling as you may risk becoming incontinent. We don’t want you slithering over those continents now, otherwise your contentment may wane and your content drain 😉
Make hay while the sun shines and drink when it pours 😉
See you when I see you – I wonder where that will be …
All the very best

OMG, so sorry I missed your message and am only replying now Kim. I take it this must be Kimberly from Karlswald? We will be heading for NZ in a couple of months time so would be great to meet, and thanks so much for the offer of the bed and braai. We’re currently in Thailand and will be spending new year here… some posts with photos to follow in the next few days.
